Ingrown toenails

Ingrown toenails or onychocryptosis are frequently encountered in podiatry in patients of all ages. Affecting mostly nails of the big toes, ingrown toenails can be hereditary, caused by poor nail cutting, trauma to the nail or by wearing footwear that is too tight.

It is important to consult your podiatrist to determine the cause of your ingrown toenail. This will allow your podiatrist to develop the proper treatment to correct the problem and to prevent recurrence. It may be necessary to perform a partial phenol matrixectomy under local anesthesia to treat ingrown toenails permanently.
